BUTLER OPERA CENTER

Since 2019 Maestro Kinney Frost offers musical leadership of the prestigious BUTLER OPERA CENTER, a research center at the University of Texas. The program presents three to five fully-produced productions with orchestra each academic year. Every aspect of the process offers singers, directors, and music staff pursuing graduate degrees at UT Austin through competitive international auditions the opportunity to practice their craft. CONDUCTING MENTOR

in demand nationally for his work with emerging conductors, Maestro Kinney Frost maintains a private studio for conductors at the University of Texas. Many of his students have earned placement in the most competitive orchestral conducting programs in the country and awards in conducting competitions.

Recent graduates of his conducting studio have participated in the 2024 La Maestra Conducting Competition and Academy for Women Conductors in Paris, have placed in the 2023 Khatchaturian International Conducting Competition, and have recently conducted or currently hold positions with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony,  and the National Symphony of Costa Rica. Those pursuing additional graduate degrees have earned entry to programs at University of Michigan, Yale University and Michigan State University.

In addition to refining musical ideas, conducting and orchestral techniques, he also mentors conductors in navigating careers as conductors and musical producers. He champions integrated-media projects encouraging his students to embrace technology as a meaningful part of music making and crafting a future for our art form.
